Yes, we came across and exercise from Isaiah McGee and decided to adapt it with flowers.
It goes like this:
Take one of two sheets of paper and draw a large box square.
In that box square list the opinions you have of yourself based on your on-going problems.
Examples: you might not see yourself as someone who receives flowers, because people don’t do that these days. Or, you might not see yourself as one who is able to give yourself flowers because it means that no one loves you. You might not see yourself as a capable person because you’ve struggled. You perhaps see yourself as unsuccessful in love because of experiences. You know what your thing is. List it.
After you fill this box square with observations of yourself based on the situations that you see in your life, then re- consider that as simply mirror of your hidden self-perception. See it as a hidden reflection of your all the, clandestine, hush-hush, covert training you have received about who you are. Yes, all those outcomes in your life as coming from those concealed, secret, undercover subtle trainings and not as the truth. Yes, the results of a training course you went onto without even knowing it in many cases but which you allowed to totally direct your current opinion and reading of yourself. Now write down what sorts of flowers would that person, with that picture of themselves have, receive, give or get.
With the second sheet, draw another square and list the things you genuinely desire to do, express and experience, with joy.
Now see this second “mirror” as a reflection of yourself without that dated, irrelevant, and mistaken ‘training course’.
See yourself instead as a victorious person who is able to do whatever they desire because they simply reflected their natural abilities to be a success. See in its place a mirror where you are a natural winner, in your own special way. Yes. This mirror is a reflection of yourself who has attended the course of ‘you as a winner in your own unique way. As that one who easily sees yourself experiencing what you desire with major ease’. What sorts of flowers do they have in their lives? What sorts of flowers do they give? What sorts of flowers do they receive?
Yes, Yes, Yes!
The next step is to practice this. Six times, twelve times, more times.
Why? Because once you get passed the novelty phase of this wonderful experience you will experience some sort of setback. Yes we said it
You will experience some form of resistance.
Yes, it’s ok. It’s normal and in fact it’s a great cue for you to keep repeating that image in the second mirror, but without expectation for the results.
Keep up the activity in the second mirror. It’s a great sign that it just needs to be reinforced, strengthened and supported by repetition.
Just keep repeating the image until you get it wired into yourself. Until you are totally familiar with this image.
Ignore your self judgement. They are not even true. Keep doing it until you are accustomed with the image in the second mirror. Do this without any judgement of any judgement of yourself is what is key here.
Yes, keep going even when you feel the judgment, self condemnation come up. It’s a really really good sign to say you have now entered the ‘Zone’ of needing to build a deep familiarity with the image in the second mirror. Keep going. Say yes and keep repeating the second image. Saying yes to those bad feelings, setbacks, frustrations, delays, and hindrances is the best way to neutralize their impact on you. Just by acknowledging their presence means you will not get into a fight with them. Just by recognizing those obstacles, will boost your movement out of the ‘Zone’. Keep moving. That’s all.
As florists, we love this exercise, because we know that creative thinking flourishes in an unconditioned mindset and stops, when we buy into a mistaken idea that we have our ourselves.
Rip up the conditioned sheet of paper, burn it and then throw it away.
Then take the second sheet and begin asking yourself, “How does this person approach the issues before me?” Refer to “that person” frequently when addressing what confronts you. This will inspire ‘floral’, creative thinking for resolving the challenges that ‘appear’ to constrict your possibilities.
Keep going, and remember those set backs are just a good sign that you have now embarked on a wonderful personal adventure which is based on the truth of your nature. Recall keep going.
